TREKKING ON ‘LE MORNE’

At the south-western end of the Island, the Morne Mountain overhangs the clear waters of the lagoon.  Access to the summit is protected by a crevasse which needs to be crossed over in Tyrolean traverse.  You are facing the mountains, between the Benitier Island and the little island called Ilot Fourneaux, in the wind, suspended into space at 450 metres!  On the plateau, time seems to have stopped … you are greeted at every step by a delicious scent of exotic plants …

You get back down in a crevasse and end up inside the mountain. It holds you back, the sky disappears … At your back, there’s nothing left but the blue shades of the ocean … You seem tiny in the middle of this mountain mass.  After three abseils of 70 metres, you reach the base like a new person...as though born again…

We offer you two possibilities to discover this magnificent mountain:

Go up and down the mountain using the same track

Climb the mountain through the normal track and then go down by abseiling. This option is only for those that have already been initiated to abseiling techniques.

What to wear :    Sport or trekking shoes, sport clothing and hat.
